Breaking the Crash Cash Diet … but for good reason

Chef's PlateToday, two weeks into our Crash Cash Diet, I whipped out my credit card for the first time and broke our cash-only rule. I know, I know, I shouldn’t have, but I had good reason to and I think you’ll agree with me.

Earlier today, I discovered Chef’s Plate, a grocery delivery of sorts that delivers all the ingredients (and recipes) you’d need to make a quick, healthy and delicious meal.

Now $10.95 per plate is pretty steep; for the two of us, that’ll be $21.90 – that’s almost as much as eating out! That’s also a staggering 36.50% of our weekly grocery budget, which just won’t do since we need approximately 42 meals per week (3 meals per day * 2 of us * 7 days a week).

Now with our weekly grocery budget of $60 that needs to cover ~42 meals (I say around 42 because sometimes we skip breakfast on weekends, and others we eat at my parents’, etc.), that means each meal should cost no more than $1.43. So if each meal is $10.95 through Chef’s Plate, it obviously will not work with our budget.

However, I also stumbled across a promo code for $44 – which means all I pay for 4 meals is $6 in shipping. That’s only $1.50 per meal, and with $54 leftover to cover 38 meals, I still have $1.42 left for the rest of the meals. I think I can sacrifice that extra penny…

    • It is!! If pricing were more reasonable, I’d probably consider it a lot more often, especially when I start working again and get a lot busier. But at $1.50/meal, I’m not going to complain! I do have to say though… I don’t miss living in Alberta one bit!
